The policy has a US$50 deductible per claim. You have the option to change your deductible to ZERO, US$250, US$500, US$1,000, US$2,000, US$2,500, US$5,000, or US$10,000.

Buy Down Your Pre-Existing Condition Stability Period

The pre-existing condition stability period that you qualify for (either 90 days or 180 days) is based on the plan that you qualify for. If you qualify for a pre-existing condition stability period of 180 days prior to any departure date, you have the option to “buy-down” the stability period for pre-existing condition coverage to 90 days. If you choose this option, the policy will cover eligible expenses for a medical condition that was stable in the 90 days prior to the departure date of any trip.

Also, if you had a replacement, elimination or an increase/decrease in dosage or frequency of a medication that does not treat a heart condition or a lung condition, and was prescribed more than 45 days prior to your departure date, you can reduce the stability period for the medical condition that the medication treats to 30 days prior to any departure date. ** Not available with Travel Health Medical Plan 2.

Important

This insurance covers treatment required only as a result of a medical emergency and has other terms, conditons, limitations and exclusions which may affect your coverage. For a full description, please review the full policy.

FAQs

We’re happy to help. If you can’t find the info you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Call us 1-800-563-0314

We will ask for your age and dates of travel. If you choose, to cover a pre-existing condition, you will be asked to answer questions about your health, stability periods, and changes in medication. No medical records are required. However, you are responsible for submitting accurate information.

No. However, you will need to know your medical conditions if calling in for a quote, you may be asked for a list of your current medications.

No. A ‘physical’ (head to toe) is not needed, you need to have been seen by a physician in the last 24 months. This means that you have visited or consulted by phone a licensed physician or licensed medical practitioner where your medical history was updated, any symptoms were diagnosed, and any test(s) requested or proposed were completed and you are aware of the results of such test(s). If you have not had a physical in the last 24 months, your premium may increase or your coverage denied.

Yes. Please see the contact page for more information or call 1-800-563-0314.

For emergency assistance, call 1-888-694-8888 from the U.S.A.or +1(905)830-4003 from Canada and the rest of the world.

You can use our plans as Top-Up insurance to extend coverage you already have, such as from a credit card or employer plan. Please note that if you have other insurance for the same period, TIS policies are always secondary (second payor). TIS policies are also secondary to your auto insurance in the event of a car accident. Please see the policy document for details.

Our policies cover emergencies anywhere in the world except where there are travel advisories set out by the Government of Canada.

Travel Health Medical Plan and A La Carte Travel Insurance are similar in terms of coverage and options. The difference is in how risk and premiums are calculated. Our online quote tool or our customer service representatives will provide a quote for both plans.

The Travel Health Medical Plan without coverage for pre-existing conditions is for people who are looking for a lower premium and are comfortable excluding coverage of any medical emergencies related to pre-existing conditions.
